Tim Cook gets serious about AI
Apple’s CEO Tim Cook just dropped some serious inspiration for anyone building in the AI space. He needed to, given how far behind Apple seems to be. In a rare all-hands meeting after a killer Q3 ($94B in revenue, up 10%!), Cook laid out Apple’s bold plan to dominate AI. Here’s the quick scoop:

Image from theVerge.com
Go Big or Go Home: Apple’s pouring billions into AI, hiring 4,800+ AI-focused brains last year alone and building new server farms. Lesson? If you’re betting on AI, scale fast and invest heavily in talent and infra. This may be the final move for Apple into AI under Tim Cook. Make or break!
Don’t Stress Being First: Cook admitted Apple’s rarely the first mover (think iPhone, iPad). Instead, they focus on nailing the user experience. For founders, this means polish > speed. Build something users love but don’t be too late.
M&A for the Win: Cook said that he is ready to buy his way into the AI game. Is Apple eyeing acquisitions like Perplexity and Mistral AI to supercharge growth?
Privacy is Your Edge: Cook doubled down on user privacy as Apple’s AI differentiator. In a world of data scrutiny, this in my opinion, is still where Apple leads.
What’s Next? Apple’s planning to roll out 20+ AI features (think writing tools and visual recognition) with more like live translation coming in 2025. Siri’s big glow-up? 2026. Stay patient but keep iterating.
X Buzz: Some cheer Apple’s privacy-first AI vibe, but others call out Siri’s lag behind ChatGPT. Apple’s playbook is clear: invest big, prioritize users, and don’t shy away from bold moves. What’s your AI strategy?

He spurned 1 Billion Dollars to stay with his AI startup
This from the WSJ. Remember the ex-CTO of Open AI- Mira Murati? She raised USD 2BN in funding for her secretive startup recently. The name of the startup is “Thinking Machines” and of course, they are working in the space of AI.
But the more interesting news is that her co-founder, Andrew Tulloch reportedly spurned Mark Zuckerberg’s USD 1BN offer to hire him. Talk about employee loyalty and being steadfast to the company’s cause! Mira better treat him well, after this.

So what?
We had written about Mark’s efforts to build up his AI talent base by poaching talent from other companies, notably Open AI. One can be sure that those who joined him are talented but they have demonstrated that they are mercenaries.
We can only imagine what will happen when Mark and his merry mercenaries go after world domination in their quest of Artificial Super intelligence. I predict bad things are in store for the world, a la Cambridge Analytica (remember that scandal?).
