Open AI Announced the launch of Codex

OpenAI has upgraded its Codex models; and if you write code, this is worth a look.

The new version writes cleaner code, follows your instructions better, and avoids adding things you didn’t ask for. It’s like having a junior dev who listens closely.

Open Ai announces Codex: onemorethinginai

Codex: Screen capture from Open AI

🛠 Does Open AI use this? Yes - OpenAI’s team uses Codex to:

• Clean up old code, rename files or variables

• Write tests and start new features

• Connect different parts of an app

• Fix bugs and write simple documentation

💡 Codex can now show quick summaries of what it did, like test results, so you don’t have to guess.

There are still limits. You can’t give feedback while it’s working. It doesn’t handle images yet. But it’s already saving them a lot of time.

Codex is now part of the Responses API as codex-mini-latest, based on the o4-mini model. It has a 200,000-token context window and supports long outputs.

Pricing: $1.50 per million input tokens, $6 per million output tokens (with a 75% discount for cached prompts).

So what?

If you’re building software or managing dev teams, Codex could take care of the boring parts, giving you back hours every week. With the acquisition of WindSurf, Open AI announced its intent to play in the AI powered coding game. It’s early, but it’s pointing to a future where coding gets faster, cleaner, and more fun.

Google DeepMind unveils AlphaEvolve

Google has been quietly rolling out a new kind of AI across its tech stack and it’s doing some serious heavy lifting.

Called AlphaEvolve, this system finds entirely new algorithms. Not tweaks. New!

It’s already helping Google:

🔧 Schedule data center workloads

🔧 Design better hardware

🔧 Speed up AI model training

But it gets more interesting.

From Deepmind

AlphaEvolve took on a core problem in computer science: matrix multiplication. It discovered multiple new ways to solve it - beating Google’s own earlier model, AlphaTensor, in both speed and range.

Then, researchers pointed it at 50+ open math problems in fields like geometry, number theory, and combinatorics.

🟦 In 75% of cases, it matched the best-known answers.

🟦 In 20%, it beat them- discovering new, better solutions. Read this again!

So what?

If an AI can find better algorithms than we’ve used for decades, it could reshape everything from faster chips to better medicines. This isn’t just about math- it’s about unlocking new tools across science, sustainability, and business.

It’s still early. But AlphaEvolve might be one of the most important systems you’ve never heard of. And like I keep saying, you can’t discount Google yet!
