Google is Shipping AI like crazy!

The birthplace of the transformed model, is shipping like AI releases like crazy. As summarized very well by CEO, Sundar Pichai. I paraphrase his post below:

New Gemini 2.5 Pro Release is at the top again

So what?

A couple of points stood out to me. Gemini is once again the state-of-the-art model across multiple benchmarks. It’s too early to rule Google out of the frontier model race. I like that news about Wing, which is where AI meets drone powered logistics for the multi-trillion dollar retail industry. That if executed well, could be a multi-billion dollar company by itself.

Wing operates in the United States, Australia, Finland, and Ireland, with plans for potential expansion to the United Kingdom. The service has completed over 300,000 deliveries, with significant scaling planned to handle millions of deliveries.

But as many observers point out, it’s the products powered by Gemini that will make or break their position.

Google Search still generates over 90% of their revenue.

Ideally, the focus should be on building new products that can supplement that income, especially in case answer engines like Perplexity or OpenAI’s Search GPT become the go-to tools for user search.

Notebook LM seems like one of those strong bets, and so does Waymo with its autonomous vehicles. But there’s still a long way to go.

When the Web isn’t Free: Reddit Takes Anthropic to Court

Reddit has fired a legal shot across the AI world, suing Anthropic, the startup behind the Claude chatbot, for allegedly scraping and using Reddit’s user comments to train its models.

The lawsuit signals a growing battle between tech platforms and AI developers over who controls and, who profits from, the internet’s conversations.

Here’s what went down:

• Reddit claims Anthropic pulled user posts without permission, violating its terms of service.

📌 That includes millions of comments across the site: the kind of authentic, informal dialogue that’s pure gold for training AI models.

• Anthropic didn’t just “read” Reddit. According to the lawsuit, it ingested data at a massive scale, without paying or negotiating a license.

📌 The platform argues that letting AI firms use Reddit’s data for free not only undermines its business but also compromises user trust.

Why it matters:

• AI companies are racing to gather high-quality, human-generated content to train their models.

📌 But much of that content lives on platforms like Reddit, which now want to be paid for access.

• If Reddit wins, it could set a precedent. Other content platforms may follow suit: think Wikipedia, Quora, Stack Overflow, and news publishers like New York Times.

• Anthropic hasn’t publicly responded yet. But its Claude AI assistant is already a major player, and any disruption to its data sources could ripple through the ecosystem.

So what?

Founders building AI apps can’t afford to ignore data ownership rights. If this lawsuit succeeds, the era of free web-scraping might be over.

And in its place? A future where every data source comes with a price tag or a legal risk.
