McKinsey on How AI Agents Will Reshape Business Workflows

AI agents can now handle complex and ambiguous tasks across industries and business functions.

They work with both human-facing tools (like browsers) and machine-facing tools (like APIs). This flexibility allows them to operate across different technology setups without needing major changes.

Here’s how a typical AI agent works:

➔ Task Assignment: A user gives the agent a goal. The system autonomously plans how to achieve it.

➔ Work Planning and Execution: The agent system breaks the goal into subtasks. A manager agent assigns these to specialized subagents, each drawing on past experience and domain knowledge.

➔ Iterative Improvement: The system may ask for more input from the user to improve output accuracy and relevance. After delivering results, it may also seek feedback.

➔ Final Action: The agent executes all necessary actions to complete the task end-to-end.

The future of work will be increasingly agent-driven; faster, more autonomous, and integrated across tech stacks.

So, What’s the Big Deal?

Agents are here to stay and when McKinsey writes about it, you can be sure that Fortune 500 boards will be talking about it!

Fortunately, you don’t have to pay big dollars to them to implement agents - there are a number of tools that we have discussed in previous newsletter editions, like (Lindy.ai /Agents.ai) that can help you get started.

Anthropic published a blueprint for agentic coding with Claude.

If you’re someone who enjoys guiding AI to build software instead of writing every line yourself, Claude Code is designed for you. The key takeaway is allow Claude to plan first and then code.

Why It Matters:

Understands Your Project: Claude Code reads your entire codebase and CLAUDE.md files to grasp your project’s structure. This means you can give high-level instructions, and Claude will handle the details.

• Talk to Your Code: Interact with your codebase using plain English. For example, you can say, “Add input validation to the signup form,” and Claude will execute the task.

• Think Deeper: Use prompts like “think hard” or “ultrathink” to trigger Claude’s deeper analysis capabilities, allowing it to tackle complex problems more effectively.

So what?

Claude Code helps you focus on creative problem-solving by handling the repetitive parts of coding. It’s like having a smart assistant that understands your coding style and helps you build software more efficiently. Take it for a test ride if you are experimenting with vibe coding.
